“Our mission centers around dignity, cultural inclusion, and the circulation of local dollars to support long-term recovery and justice-driven food systems while maintaining sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Following the devastation of the Eaton Fire, AFM has expanded its mission to focus on healing, recovery, and resilience for wildfire-impacted families by building community led growing spaces that prioritize community care, economic empowerment, and environmental stewardship. AFM aims to integrate cultural expression, community connections, wellness practices, waste reduction and sustainable farming.”
During the first week of January the Eaton Fire caused the destruction of thousands of structures in Altadena and surrounding areas, including homes, businesses and public spaces. Our market lost its operating space, inventory, equipment and supplies. Most of our crew lost their homes and as well as our vendors lost a considerable amount of their income. But just days after the disaster we decided to take action and start a Free Farmers’ Market to provide healthy food to those affected by the fire.
A few weeks later we got approached by World Central Kitchen and together we provided over $500,000 in free local produce to feed our community and generate income sales to many local and regional farmers.
In July 2025, we secured a permanent location in Pasadena, where we are currently running our Fire Relief Voucher Program, with the collaboration of Hollywood Food Coalition.
The Altadena Farmers’ Market is now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and are working on raising funds to finance our operations. Click on the buttons below to donate.
